IMPACT ON THE
LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY
Over 1 million LGBTQ+ individuals work in hospitals nationwide, making it the 2nd most prevalent industry for the LGBTQ+ community to work in.
LGBTQ+ individuals represent nearly one fifth of all people in the hospital industry, and are twice as likely to work in the hospital industry as the broader population.
Many hospital workers still make as little as $17 per hour in California, including numerous members of the LBGTQ+ community.
SB 525 would establish a $25 per hour healthcare worker minimum wage, including for all hospital workers. This will address the huge shortage of healthcare workers our state is facing by helping retain existing workers and attract new ones.
